AAWS grand opening was held on Sat. Sept. 22, 2012. Big Dog kennels - There are ten 4' by 7' kennels. Depending on the size of the animal and the compatibilty, some kennels can house two animals.
The puppy room houses smaller dogs as well as puppies. All crates and cages are disinfected and cleaned on a daily basis.
September 22, 2012 - AAWS grand opening! Avoyelles High School is a proud sponsor of Avoyelles Animal Welfare Society. Every year the students of different clubs at Avoyelles High School donate fundraising money for the shelter.
Tractor Supply Store in Mansura has been one of AAWS biggest supporters. They have sponsored many dinners, cake sales and other events, as well as making very generous contributions of much needed pet supplies. AAWS is extremely grateful to Mr. Ken and all of his staff at Tractor Supply!!!
This is the treatment room/wash room. There is an elevated bathtub as well as a portable tub to bathe the animals. There is also a washer and dryer located in this room.
The cat room has cat cages as well as an oversized cat post and extended shelving so that they can view the outside. Most of the cats are spayed/neutered and ready for adoption.
Darlene Gormsen paired up with Paragon Casino for a food and supply drive for Avoyelles Animal Welfare Society. The drive netted much needed supplies and goodies for our homeless residents. Supplies are always needed anytime, and their donations are greatly appreciated!!
2015 AAWS Shelter Walk Was A Success!!!!
On Saturday, September 26, 2014, AAWS hosted it's sixth annual shelter walk. It was a huge success with over 60 sponsors and over 40 participants with their pets and shelter dogs walking from the shelter in Cottonport to the men's prison and back again. AAWS had more participation in this event than ever before!!!
